Ultimate Human Goals
Maslow’s
Hierarchy of Needs
Abraham Maslow was a
clinical scientist who was not interested in particular psychiatric disorders,
but in a broader variety of human psychological needs. He is known best for his
philosophy of hierarchy-of-needs. The principle, described in a pyramid,
organizes in order of relevance the five distinct stages of human psychological
and physical needs.
Physiological needs
(food and clothing), protective conditions (job security), social needs
(friendship), self-esteem, and self-actualization are the needs in Maslow's
hierarchy. Managers should use this hierarchy that identifies five needs to
help understand the morale of workers and approach them in ways that contribute
to high efficiency and employee satisfaction
Physiological
Needs - The fundamental physiological criteria
are possibly reasonably obvious, even the aspects that are important to our
existence.
Security
and Safety Needs - When we step up to the second
level of the hierarchy of needs of Maslow, the criteria tend to get a little
more difficult. The requirements for safety and protection are becoming
paramount at this stage.
Social
Needs - The social needs in the hierarchy of
Maslow include topics such as love, approval, and belonging. The desire for
intimate relationships at this stage determines human behaviour.
Esteem
Needs - The desire for recognition and
reverence is at the fourth step of Maslow's hierarchy. If the needs have been
fulfilled at the bottom three tiers, the desire for esteem continues to play a
more significant role in encouraging actions. At this point, winning the
admiration and affection of others becomes more and more important.
Self-Actualization
Needs - The self-actualization criteria are
at the very top of Maslow's hierarchy. What a man can be, he must be,"
referring to the desire for individuals to reach their full potential as human
beings.(Maslow,1954).
It may be loosely described as the full
use and exploitation of talents, capabilities, potentialities, etc. Such people
seem to be fulfilling themselves and to be doing the best that they are capable
of doing

Retaining employees is a very important thing for an organization. It can continue to serve the organization, or the company can waste both time and money by hiring unskilled employees. In order to retain employees in an organization, it is necessary to know the basic needs of the employees and by fulfilling them properly, it is possible to retain employees within the organization.
ReplyDeleteHuman needs or goals in respect of any concern not only in organizational level but at the any human activity matter, need to be addressed or identified as the way the discussion has made.
ReplyDeleteWhat is written along with the theory is well written.
ReplyDeletePersonally I find it difficult to agree with the this theory. In history, whoever has achieved certain levels of self actualization, did so by sacrificing psychological, Security and social requirements.
It is well observed that the bottom level category needs are mostly the physical needs & the top level category needs are mostly the phycological needs.
